Welcome
Dear Colleagues and the Members of ISSR:
Building on the outstanding success of the previous eight International Conferences on Selenium in the Environment and Human Health (ICSEHH), including the 1st Conference held in Suzhou, China in 2009, the 2nd Conference held in Suzhou, China in 2011, the 3rd Conference held in Hefei, China in 2013, the 4th Conference held in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2015, the 5th Conference held in Stockholm, Sweden in 2019, the 6th Conference held in Xi’an, China in 2019, the 7th Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2023, the 8th Conference held in Chuzhou, China in 2025, and now the 9th Conference will take place on 5-8 September 2027 in Turin, Italy.
Over the years, this conference series has grown into a dynamic international forum where scientists, especially specialists in environmental, animal, human and medical health, nutrition, and the biological, molecular and cellular sciences, can share advances in selenium research, explore ideas across disciplines, and build new scientific collaborations.
The magnificent city of Turin provides an exceptional setting for the 9th Conference. Framed by the Alps and crossed by the River Po, the city combines remarkable natural beauty with a rich historical and cultural heritage. As the first capital of unified Italy, Torino has played a central role in the country’s history. Its elegant Baroque architecture, magnificent piazzas, renowned museums, historic cafés, and longstanding traditions of scientific and technological innovation make it an inspiring place in which to meet, reflect, and develop new ideas.
Against this distinguished backdrop, the international selenium research community will come together to shape new perspectives on the directions, applications, and achievements of selenium research. The conference promises to be an inspiring event, bringing together enthusiastic young participants and experienced researchers from Italy and around the world, all eager to present and openly discuss their latest findings and concepts. The International Society for Selenium Research extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the local organizing committee, the host institutions, and all faculty members, staff, and student volunteers whose dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work have made this conference possible. This event represents the collective efforts of a community united by a fascinating and important subject, selenium.
We hope that this 9th Conference in Europe will offer participants from around the world another valuable opportunity to discuss strategies for enhancing the beneficial contributions of selenium to environmental and human health. All the elements are in place for a successful conference and an enriching experience for everyone. Enjoy the conference, build new connections, strengthen existing collaborations, discover Turin, and celebrate together.
Sincerely,

Michela Schiavon, Ph.D.
Chair, the 9th ICSEHH
