Aligned fully with the integrated “One Health” paradigm, the symposium featured six different sessions addressing Se’s health impacts through the whole ecological food chain: from polar Se biogeochemical cycling, spatial distribution of soil Se, rhizosphere Se hotspots, Se uptake and transformation in plants, Se-mediated crop protection, to population-level Se nutritional risk assessment. The symposium balanced rigorous scientific in-depth discussion with coherent narrative logic and completed the soil-to-human Se continuum, reflecting the global ISSR research priorities.

This symposium effectively unified nationwide young Se researchers, clarified the core priority for future innovative Se research in China Youth Branch, and promoted the momentum of conducting high-quality Se research. The symposium attracted nearly 50 early-career scholars, PhD candidates, and master’s students from over 20 leading universities and research institutions in China. The participants expressed strong expectations on Se research in China and decided that the China Youth Branch will regularly organize these academic events to enhance high-quality and sustainable Se research in the nation and further strengthen the regional contributions to the global Se research advancement.
